Corn Cob Blasting
|
|
|
- Corn cob media is classified as a "soft abrasive"
- Cob blasting is the process of blowing corn cob media through an industrial machine, removing finishes from logs
- Cob blasting is recommended to remove difficult finishes like paint and film forming stains from log surfaces
- Cob blasting alone does not kill mold and mildew
- Cob blasting alone does not protect logs against future mold/mildew growth
- Cob blasting may be too aggressive for many log homes

Pressure Washing
|
|
|
- Specialized log cleaners are applied and washed off to remove the existing finish
- These cleaners kill mold and mildew present on the logs as they remove the finish
- ALL leading log home stain manufacturers recommend prepping logs using this method
- Even after cob blasting it is sometimes necessary to wash down the logs with these cleaners to kill mold/mildew
- Borate treatments are recommended for log homes and can only be effectively applied as a wet process
- The moisture content of the logs is raised for a short time as the logs dry. Usually within 5-7 days logs are well within staining guidelines of 18% or less.
